RF PIN diodes come in high-performance SMT packages
Targeting WiMAX and WLAN applications, Microsemi Corp. has announced a line of RF pin diodes in surface-mount packages with superior electrical and thermal performance compared to standard plastic packaging. The new series of GigaMite PIN diodes can deliver higher-frequency coverage and better power handling than is found in conventional RF diodes, said Microsemi.
Low package parasitics provide a smooth non-resonant functionality through the 5 GHz broadband range. High-quality dielectric materials result in low loss and support broadband performance.
“We see our new GigaMite line as a way to provide commercial customers the performance that's near what Microsemi delivers to our high-reliability customers in the defense and aerospace markets,“ said John Caruso, vice president and general manager of Microsemi's microwave products operation in Lowell, Mass.
First devices in the new GigaMite series are designated GMP4201 through GMP4232 with voltages ranging from 75 V to 300 V. The package measures only 0.052 × 0.072 inches, the identical footprint of conventional SOD323 packaging. Its height is only 0.035 inch. All GigaMite devices are RoHS compliant and have an MSL 1 classification.
