Virtual Platforms Support Multicore Processors Ahead Of Silicon Availability
Wind River has announced its Simics virtual platforms for the Freescale Semiconductor QorIQ P5020, P5010, and P3041 multicore processors. Simics provides Freescale customers and ecosystem partners access to P5020, P5010, and P3041 development platforms before silicon is available so they can begin evaluation and development immediately. According to the companies, this will help teams reduce engineering costs and improve time-to-market.
The companies also call Simics a powerful debug platform that eases the complexities of multicore software development. It’s designed to enable customers to quickly run “what if” scenarios on their systems design without the need for physical prototyping. Highly scalable, the basic Simics platform for Freescale QorIQ devices can be modified to match the customer’s specific hardware and then be incorporated into a full system.
The P5020 and P5010 incorporate Freescale’s QorIQ 64-bit e5500 core, which is based on Power Architecture technology. The e5500 core is engineered for next-generation, high-end control and data plane applications in networking, enterprise storage, security appliance, data center, and aerospace and defense markets. Based on e500 core technology, it can run in 64- or 32-bit mode, allowing legacy software support while providing an easy transition to 64-bit processing.
Wind River plans on expanding its software portfolio to support the QorIQ P5020, P5010, and P3041 platforms. The portfolio supports a variety of hardware architectures, operating systems, and tool environments. Also, the companies say, it provides comprehensive virtual systems development solutions so engineers can develop, debug, test, and run the entire software application stack on a virtual representation of their target hardware.
The Simics virtual platforms for the QorIQ P5020, P5010, and P3041 processors is now available for early access to qualified customers.
