Entertainment Industries To Bulk Up In On-The-Go Functionality

According the market research firm INSIGHT Research Corp. there is a major movement by the music and game publishers, television broadcasters, video production companies, content aggregators, and telecommunications carriers across the globe to on-the-go devices. The aforementioned industries are expected to spend over $8 billion on tools for creating, editing, managing, and loading content on mobile devices by the end of Q4 in 2008.

The biggest technology bump heading this massive shift is the switch from discrete content management systems that can only handle and transfer content to specific devices, to content management systems that handle multiple channels, platforms, etc., and are optimized for content recycling.

"Today's tools are able to manage various types of content and put specific types of content onto specific devices," says Robert Rosenberg, INSIGHT Research Corps.' president. "What is truly needed, however, and what we expect to see emerge over the next few years, are tools that unlock the value of content in the digital age by formatting and managing content for device-independence. When content becomes reusable across multiple delivery channels its value increases enormously, which will foster investment in developing the next generation of content management tools."
