Apple’s App Store Tops 10 Billion Downloads
Since its launch in July 2008, the Apple App Store has served up more than 10 billion apps for more than 160 million iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users worldwide. The 10 billionth customer, Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent, the U.K., downloaded Paper Glider and also received a $10,000 iTunes gift card as the winner of the App Store Countdown to 10 Billion Apps.
“With more than 10 billion apps downloaded in just two-and-a-half years—a staggering 7 billion apps in the last year alone—the App Store has surpassed our wildest dreams,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
The App Store offers more than 350,000 apps to iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users in 90 countries, with more than 60,000 native iPad apps available. Customers can choose from apps in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference, and travel.
