Combined Technologies Allow Smart Home Control Applications

A joint technology solution from Zilog Inc. and tvCompass Inc. enables a mobile software solution to provide remote control capability on the Apple iPhone and other popular mobile smart phones. The solution, demonstrated at last week’s 2009 International CES, uses tvCompass’s patented network-connected Interactive Program Guide and wireless service. It also includes Zilog’s Crimzon Connects technology, which offers customized control of home audio/video products via the company’s infrared database and a variety of other home devices, such as lights and thermostats that use Insteon or Z-Wave technology.

The tvCompass mobile smart phone software applications will be become commercially available starting in the second quarter of 2009 with planned support for Apple iPhone mobile phone and iPod touch PDA, Microsoft Windows Mobile, Google Android, and RIM BlackBerry devices. The mobile client applications will interoperate with the tvCompass click365SM wireless content and hosted services network, which currently serves a population of Wi-Fi mobile Internet devices offered in the home theater and remote accessory market under the ESPN and Audiovox brands.

Crimzon Connects technology from Zilog provides the hardware and software building blocks for embedded system designers and consumer electronics manufacturers to develop solutions that enable total home control via any Web-enabled device. This includes an iPhone, iPod touch, PC, or PDA using the home’s existing wireless network. Crimzon Connects technology is available now.
