FOTA Tool Advances Reliable Smart-Phone Deployment
Red Bend’s vRapid Mobile, a tool for updating firmware over the airwaves (FOTA), promises to reduce support costs by remotely managing firmware updates. As per the company, it is the only FOTA solution to perform firmware updates in the background without interrupting normal functions, i.e., talk, text, and Web browsing. Essentially, the app is an OMA DM-compliant (Open Mobile Alliance Device Management) and interoperable device management client for provisioning new subscribers, configuring applications and network settings, managing software, and retrieving device information. TechFaith, a manufacturer and marketer of branded mobile phones, has shipped five Red Bend-Enabled Qualcomm-based smart phones: the aigo a700, QIGI WG1, WG TWIN, WG-Ginny, and WG-Scepter. All are 3G WCDMA customized dual-mode/SIM handsets for China Unicom. For more details, go to www.redbend.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=94&Itemid=26&lang=en.
