Integrated 2.4-GHz RF front end extends range of low-power wireless systems up to 15 times

Texas Instruments has introduced what it says is the industry's highest integrated 2.4-GHz, RF front end for low-power and low-voltage wireless applications. The CC2591 increases the range (link budget) in wireless systems by integrating a power amplifier for increased output power of +22 dBm and a low-noise amplifier for improved receiver sensitivity of +6 dB.

The device is a high-performance and cost-effective front end for all 2.4-GHz wireless systems, such as ZigBee networks, sensors and industrial, consumer and audio equipment. It provides a seamless interface to all of TI's existing and future 2.4-GHz RF transceivers, transmitters and system-on-chip products, enabling design engineers to speed development time and improve RF performance.

The CC2591 integrates a power amplifier, low-noise amplifier, balun, switches, inductors and RF-matching network. This unmatched level of integration simplifies high-performance designs and enables customers to develop a high output power wireless solution with very few external components.

The CC2591 is available from TI and its authorized distributors in a 4 mm x 4 mm QFN-16 package. Pricing starts at $3.15 in 1000-piece quantities.
