Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital deploys hospital-wide Wi-Fi
Xirrus, Inc. has announced the deployment of its Wi-Fi arrays at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital (TCLMH) located in WaKeeney, Kan.
TCLMH is a community hospital serving five counties across Kansas and includes an emergency room, a 25-bed critical access healthcare facility, a 37-bed long-term care unit, a six-bed assisted living complex, the WaKeeney and Ellis Family Care Centers, and a cafeteria for servicing patients, staff, and home-delivered meals.
To better service their patients and become more productive, the hospital desired to implement electronic medical records (EMR) in which doctors would use wireless tablet computers from the clinic to the long-term care unit. In order to deploy the EMR solution, seamless Wi-Fi connectivity would be needed across the 100,000-square-foot hospital, which meant that the Wi-Fi solution needed to be strong enough to penetrate the interior block walls to reach each patient room and be secure enough to guard against attack to the network.
“We are extremely impressed with Xirrus. The all around performance is so good with the Xirrus solution; we are able to offer 'hotel'-type Internet access for our patients,” said Joleen Schuster, manager of information technology and services of TCLMH. “No other Wi-Fi system could deliver the coverage and user density with so few devices. This was critical since TCLMH uses the Great Plains Health Alliance for IT assistance, so since there is no on-site staff, the network needed to be easy to install, simple to configure, and most importantly have uncomplicated day-to-day management.”
“Trego County Hospital now has a secure, enterprise-grade Wi-Fi solution to satisfy their emergent Wi-Fi plans,” said Jon Freeman, western area vice president for sales of Xirrus. “The state-of-the-art Xirrus Wi-Fi network has the performance and capacity to support a wide range of medical applications, both now and in the future.”
