IMDS Accelerates Data Access Across Mobile Networks

Airspan Networks now integrates McObject’s eXtremeDB In-Memory Database System (IMDS) software in its latest Air4G mobile broadband network basestation. According to both companies, the IMDS provides fast data access for managing real-time voice and data traffic. Notably, the app contributes significantly toward simultaneous support of WiMAX and Long-Term Evolution (LTE). Support for both standards enables carriers to increase range and bandwidth while trimming costs. Other advantages include production-time and cost savings attributed to eXtremeDB’s small code size (around 150k) and sparser CPU demands resulting in minimal hardware requirements. Within Air4G, the IMDS runs in a Linux-based app supporting the eNodeB basestation component of the LTE architecture. It stores user settings, i.e., operating frequency, transmit power, and transient data, in RAM for each call/session. IMDS also synchronizes data between different modules in the eNodeB app.
