Openmoko Presents FreeRunner Demonstration At ESC

Openmoko Inc. will present its FreeRunner mobile phone platform during a session at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, scheduled for Tuesday, March 31 at 1:30 p.m. at the ESC Theater on the show floor. The company also will give FreeRunner mobile phones to five lucky session attendees. And, Openmoko will reduce the price of the FreeRunner platform from $399 to $299 through April 26 via its Web site, http://us.direct.openmoko.com.

According to Openmoko, designers can speed development by using its freely available open CAD files, electronics schematics, and free and open-source software and support. In addition to its own operating system, Openmoko supports major open-source distributions including Android, Gentoo, SHR, Debian, FDOM, and QT. The company currently is working with 50 distributors covering North America, Europe, and Asia and has sold the FreeRunner phone to more than 40 universities.
