IS2T SA and Green Hills Software have teamed up to provide IS2T’s Hard Real-Time MicroJvm virtual machines for embedded systems integrated for use with the Green Hills Integrity real-time operating system (RTOS). According to the companies, IS2T’s Java platforms offer embedded application developers a small memory footprint, a high-speed Java engine with optimized software library bundles, and Hard Real-Time Java (HRTJ) capabilities. A typical J2ME Java platform based on MicroJvm running on Integrity requires 80 kbytes of program memory.

The companies say that software developers for a wide range of embedded systems can take advantage of innovative technologies grouped in one solution to reduce product time-to-market: IS2T’s deterministic, small-footprint J2ME virtual machines, the safety-proven and security-proven Integrity RTOS, and Green Hills’ optimizing C compilers, which are part of the Multi integrated development environment.

Taking deterministic Java to the embedded market with Integrity provides the engineering community with new opportunities to prototype, design, and maintain reliable and scalable electronic products, the companies say. Tightly coupled with Integrity, IS2T’s GI10 HRTJ virtual machine from the MicroJvm product line provides a best-in-class application program for software requiring a high-level programming environment, combined with hard real-time, predictable timing and segregated memory spaces, according to the companies.

The IS2T MicroEJ Development Kit offers dedicated tools for Hard Real-Time Analysis at Java binary levels. GI10 complies with the J2ME CLDC Java standard. It leverages the native Integrity message-passing application programming interface in Java to allow seamless design from application to system level, both in Java and in C. GI10’s unique deterministic Java memory management frees engineers from tedious and error-prone memory consumption calibration. To further complement the integration, GI10 Java HRTJ threads are native Integrity Tasks for reliable system-level scheduling, the companies say.
