Software Automatically Connects Android Phones To Wi-Fi Hotspots

WeFi Inc. has launched a version of its free software, which offers users automatic access to the best Wi-Fi connection available, for the Android mobile operating system. Users can download the WeFi software directly from the WeFi Web site at www.wefi.com/download/?cat=android or by searching for WeFi in Android Market, where it can be found under “Applications/Communication.”

According to the company, WeFi makes mobile Internet connections fast and easy for Android users. Instead of manually opening a browser, searching for a Wi-Fi hotspot, and sorting through those that cost money, require a password, or offer low quality, WeFi automatically connects to the best connection available. If the connection is lost, WeFi automatically reconnects to another available open Wi-Fi hotspot.

Since WeFi is a community-generated network, users provide many of the access points themselves. If the open hotspot was previously unknown to the network, it is then added so future users can connect to it. WeFi always seeks to connect users to access points where access has already been verified by other WeFi-enabled devices, called community-verified spots, in a growing network of more than 21 million access points.

Versions of WeFi for Symbian, Windows Mobile, and Mac are available as well.
