The 3GPP Partners formally proposed the evaluation of LTE Release 10 & beyond (LTE-advanced) as a candidate for IMT-Advanced. 3GPP’s proposal to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) includes a comprehensive description of LTE-Advanced, which the organization says has considerable support from the world’s leading mobile operators. The submission was made jointly in the name of the 3GPP Organizational Partners—ARIB, ATIS, CCSA, ETSI, TTA, and TTC—representing the North American, European, and Asian markets.

“More than 30 operators have already announced their intention to deploy the LTE technology, and the evolution possibilities of LTE Release 10 & beyond provides security for their investments for many years to come,” said Adrian Scrase, head of the 3GPP Mobile Competence Centre.

With more than 370 mobile technology companies, the 3GPP Partners determine the 3GPP organization’s general policy and strategy. They also approve and maintain 3GPP’s scope, maintain the Partnership Project Description, decide on the creation of cessation of technical specification groups, and manage other responsibilities.
