AT&T Buys 700-MHz Qualcomm Spectrum For $1.925 Billion

To enhance its mobile broadband experience nationwide, AT&T will purchase spectrum licenses in the lower 700-MHz frequency band from Qualcomm for $1.925 billion. AT&T says the move will strengthen its ability to provide 4G services in the years ahead. The spectrum covers more than 300 million users nationwide. Around 12 MHz of the lower 700-MHz D and E block spectrum covers more than 70 million people in five U.S. areas: New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. About 6 MHz of lower 700-MHz D block spectrum covers more than 230 million people across the rest of the U.S.
