CSR has shipped its billionth Bluetooth chip. Underlining its dominance in the market, CSR’s BlueCore silicon is to be found in mobile phones from every single tier one mobile handset maker and its silicon has been used in market-leading products from customers including Apple, Dell, NEC, Panasonic, Sony, TomTom and Toshiba to name but a few. CSR’s Bluetooth silicon is designed-in around 60% of all Bluetooth qualified products.

CSR says that the success of its market-leading BlueCore silicon is due to the fact that the company offers the industry’s best Bluetooth technology in terms of size, radio performance and power consumption and is the most highly developed, robust and reliable solution available in the market. The dominance is also testament to the fact that CSR continually innovates to keep its BlueCore technology ahead of the competition and this is borne out by CSR winning the most prominent design wins in the industry. CSR continues to develop its Bluetooth technology in a way that drives the technology into new and exciting end-user applications.

“This truly is a remarkable milestone for CSR and for the Bluetooth industry overall”, said Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director, Bluetooth SIG. “Reaching the billionth-chip mark illustrates the popularity of CSR’s Bluetooth technologies amongst manufacturers across a wide range of sectors. CSR develops products that address the key issues facing designers such as cost, size and performance and interoperability. The Bluetooth SIG congratulates CSR on reaching this landmark.”

Joep van Beurden, chief executive officer of CSR, commented, “The popularity of Bluetooth technology has revolutionised the consumer electronics industry and CSR has been on the forefront of design in making the adoption and integration of wireless technology easier for OEMs. This is a huge milestone for us and not only highlights the volume that CSR is delivering but also confirms our position and dominance as the leading Bluetooth provider. And this is only the beginning, Bluetooth is at the heart of connectivity in mobile phones, one of the largest areas of growth for semiconductors over the coming years. Our leading position allows us to ship many more, highly differentiated connectivity products.”
