IEEE 1588v2 PTP Advances Across Worldwide Networks
Time and frequency technologies company Symmetricom announces that its IEEE 1588 solutions now inhabit over 100 networks. Precision Time Protocol (PTP) is an IEEE standard technology enabling IP-based (Internet Protocol) networks to deliver both frequency and phase synchronization. Accelerating usage of PTP indicates strong acceptance among operators and equipment vendors. In turn, according to the company, this accelerates the transition from time-domain multiplexing (TDM) to packet networks because PTP supports interoperability and seamless implementation in carrier networks of all sizes. Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has successfully integrated Symmetricom’s TimeProvider 5000 IEEE 1588 Grandmaster Clock into its Mobile Backhaul solution and NetAct management system with more than 75 deployments serving more than 60,000 cellular basestations.
