According to Agilent Technologies, AVS is one of the advanced audio/video coding standards for delivery of Internet protocol television (IPTV) services developed by the AVS Workgroup of China. Service providers and manufacturers are faced with numerous network-related challenges including network element interoperability, proactive measurement of video media transport, service delivery optimization, ensuring Quality of Experience (such as video quality and channel zapping), and balancing IP network performance for real-time services.

Agilent said that its Triple Play Analyzer J6900A is the most complete test solution for network equipment manufacturers and communication service providers who develop, install, maintain, troubleshoot and monitor IP-based voice, video and data systems, such as IPTV and VoIP networks and services. It is an ideal tool to detect and resolve signaling, transport and voice/video/data Quality of Service and Quality of Experience problems -- before customers are affected, added the supplier. Plus, it provides the essential measurements and key performance indicators that enable engineers and technicians to quickly and proactively identify customer-impacting issues before they become problems, and empowers faster and higher-quality AVS-IPTV network deployment, Agilent stated.

The Agilent Triple Play Analyzer provides comprehensive AVS-IPTV measurements including:

  • Passive AVS video MOS (Mean Opinion Score) analysis for hundreds of IPTV/VoD streams in real-time;
  • Real-time playback of AVS-based IPTV multicast or Video/TV on-demand streams in real-time with audio;
  • Comprehensive AVS-IPTV MPEG Transport Stream analysis based on the ETSI TR101-290 standard;
  • IPTV transmission layer analysis based on the RFC4445 - Media Delivery Index standard; and
  • Analysis of IPTV channel-zapping latency and VoD command response times.

The Agilent J6900A Triple Play Analyzer with AVS test capability is available.
