Multilayer ceramic capacitors are tailored for RF applications
Morgan Electro Ceramics (MEC) has launched a new RF multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC). The 10 mm square, type 106, offers high capacitance and performance in a small unit volume and provides reliable operation for a variety of high RF voltage and high RF current applications.
Type 106 is the latest addition to the company’s popular range of MLCC capacitors. There are now four MLCC capacitor case sizes in the range, from 10 mm square to 20 mm square with capacitances ranging between one and 820 pF, operational voltages up to 7200 V and power levels of up to 25 kVAr. According to Morgan Electro Ceramics, a six mm square capacitor will be available shortly.
The MLCC capacitors are constructed from a very low loss modified magnesium titanate ceramic and internal electrodes, which when sintered under controlled conditions, form a monolithic and hermetically sealed device. They are available in a variety of end termination styles, including a completely non-magnetic option, which allows distortion-free use with high Tesla magnetic fields, and a nickel barrier end termination for reflow soldering and surface mounting in the semiconductor chip market.
