Mobile Encoders Support ATSC Mobile DTV Standard
The 4Caster C4 convergence encoder and M2 mobile encoder from Envivio Inc. support the proposed ATSC Mobile DTV candidate standard for mobile television broadcast in the U.S. In fact, the company says that multiple vendors will use Envivio products in their demonstrations of complete ATSC Mobile DTV video delivery solutions at NAB 2009, April 18-23 in Las Vegas.
MPH, the A-VSB initiative, and other contributing groups also used Envivio encoders in their technology demonstrations throughout the development of the proposed ATSC Mobile DTV standard. These encoders are deployed worldwide to enable efficient delivery of high-quality advanced mobile broadcast TV service over a wide range of delivery standards, including DVB-H, DVB-SH, ISDB-T, and CMMB, to a range of mobile devices including mobile phones, portable media players, and ultra-mobile PCs.
Axcera will demonstrate its complete end-to-end ATSC Mobile DTV transmission solution at NAB 2009. The solution comprises the company’s ATSC Mobile DTV Pre-Processor/Multiplexer for combining terrestrial and mobile content along with an electronic service guide (ESG) into a single transport stream, feeding an ATSC broadcast transmitter with Axcera’s Axciter adaptive digital television modulator, which will be used to deliver Envivio-encoded content to a mobile receiver.
Also, Larcan will demonstrate its ATSC Mobile DTV Multiplex-Gateway at NAB 2009, where broadcasters can see Mobile DTV streams encoded by Envivio in real time as well as legacy MPEG-2 ATSC transport streams. Larcan’s goal is to provide a complete turnkey state-of-the-art package for broadcasters that’s affordable and robust enough for future demands, according to the company.
