Motorola Demonstrates 700-MHz LTE Network At CTIA
Showing off the standard’s next-generation wireless broadband capabilities, Motorola deployed a live 700-MHz Long-Term Evolution (LTE) demonstration network in Las Vegas during the International CTIA Wireless 2009 show earlier this month. During the LTE Live Drive tour, visitors experienced the real-life performance of LTE in an urban environment, including site-to-site handover, HD video blogging, streaming HD video, online gaming, music, maps, and other high-bandwidth and low-latency Internet-based applications.
Motorola set up the physical equipment and successfully deployed the LTE demo-ready network and commercial video systems in less than two weeks. According to the company, the demonstration’s success is a result of the accuracy of Motorola’s network planning capabilities and its expertise in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and all-IP wireless technology. Motorola also says that the accuracy of network planning and the speed of deployment are key factors in reducing the operational expense involved in deploying an LTE network.
The demonstration used Motorola’s latest OFDM-based wireless network infrastructure utilizing 700-MHaz antennas from Andrew and the Aeroflex TM500 LTE test mobile. The TM500 provides a platform for replicating LTE handsets prior to the availability of commercial devices. According to Motorola, it also demonstrates the company’s network maturity and compliance with the LTE standards. Motorola further says that it is on track for the first commercial release of its LTE solutions for 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz later this year.
