R-C filters protect color LCDs in 3G handsets

Semtech's Eclamp238xP is a family of R-C protection devices with the low capacitance, high attenuation and low clamping voltage needed for high-frequency color LCD interfaces in GSM and CDMA-based 3G handsets. The series includes the four-line EClamp2384P, the six-line EClamp2386P and the eight-line EClamp2388P. The EClamp238xP's two-pole R-C filter network has a 200 Ù resistor and two 12 pF capacitors, enabling the devices to offer minimal attenuation in the passband and 30 dB minimum attenuation from 800 MHz to 2.7 GHz, suitable for GSM, CDMA or 3G-based mobile phones.

Each device in the family includes TVS diodes for ESD protection and an R-C network for EMI and RFI filtering. Housed in 1.6 mm wide and 0.58 mm high packages with a variable length (depending on the number of lines supported), each EClamp device is priced at $0.32 each in 1000-piece quantities. The devices complement Semtech's EClamp237xP series of R-C devices.
