Workshop Addresses Smart-Grid/Mobile-Network Possibilities
A two-day workshop set in the wilds of Sophia Antipolis, France, April 5-6, 2011, will examine standards in Europe, the U.S., and Asia to ascertain opportunities for cooperation on smart-grid architectures. Some believe that smart grids will have a significant impact on communication networks, i.e., power companies partnering with mobile-network operators to cut costs. Organized by the CEN/CENELEC/ETSI Joint Working Group, NIST SGIP, and T&D Europe, “Standards: An Architecture for the Smart Grid” will analyze smart metering as one of the standards in a smart-grid architecture. Other topics include ICT-based (information and communications technologies) business models, ICT for electrical vehicle systems and network management and home-energy management, emerging apps for the grid, and interoperability, plus standardization and regulation. The event is free of charge and open to all.
