White paper focuses on benefits of voice over Wi-Fi
The Wi-Fi Alliance has released a white paper, “Delivering the Best Experience with Voice over Wi-Fi Programs,” which details the unique requirements of the voice application on Wi-Fi devices. The paper also previews the organization’s Voice–Personal certification program, planned for launch in the first half of 2008. The white paper is available for free registered download at www.wi-fi.org.
Growth in the widespread use of voice over Wi‑Fi in the consumer market is expected to accelerate over the next few years, supported by the availability of Wi‑Fi Certified equipment. ABI Research predicts that more than 340 million Wi-Fi-enabled handsets will ship in 2011. Wi-Fi is used in hundreds of millions of homes, businesses, and hotspots worldwide, and voice over Wi-Fi delivers flexibility, convenience and cost savings over traditional cellular or wireline phone service.
