WiMAX Forum Certifies 2.5-GHz CPE Reference Designs
The WiMAX Forum has certified the 2.5-GHz band version of the 500 series of indoor customer premise equipment (CPE) reference designs from the C-DOT Alcatel-Lucent Research Centre (CARC). According to CARC, this Mobile WiMAX certification will ensure interoperability with infrastructure for this category of low-cost CPE, speeding the uptake of wireless broadband services, especially in high-growth economies.
The 500 series reference designs are based on the SQN1130 chip from Sequans Communications. The CARC CPE is designed to cost-effectively expand the reach of telecommunications for global markets. According to CARC, its expertise in radio and advanced antenna capabilities means network operators require fewer cell sites to cover a larger geographical area.
Besides multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) functionality, the CPE also supports beam forming for greater flexibility in a variety of deployment scenarios. The family of reference designs includes indoor and outdoor CPE as well as USB dongles to meet the diverse needs of the WiMAX end-user device market. Design development is integrated with CARC’s WiMAX infrastructure development with the goal of seamless introduction of the end-user devices into commercial operators’ end-to-end networks.
A joint venture between Alcatel-Lucent and the Centre for Development of Telecom of the Government of India (C-DOT), CARC is a global R&D center dedicated to broadband wireless access with a focus on developing WiMAX Rev-e solutions. In addition to WiMAX end-to-end infrastructure components, it offers a low-cost line of WiMAX CPE designed to help increase broadband and voice penetration throughout the world.
