The FXP.611 Cloud flexible loop antenna from Taoglas USA outperforms most active patch antennas with 80% efficiency and 3-dBi peak gain across the GPS and Glonass bands (1575 to 1610 MHz), according to the company. Measuring just 38 by 37 by 0.1 mm, it also can resist external detuning effects due to dual resonance and is half the cost of heavy active patch antennas, Taoglas says.
The antenna eliminates the need for a filter or low-noise amplifier (LNA), so it can connect directly to a module or a board. Its peel and stick mounting uses 3M tape to attach to plastic device housings, freeing up board space. And while it’s appropriate for any industrial handheld device, tablet, or smart phone, it radiates power uniformly with an omnidirectional design, suiting use in devices that have fixed positions.
