Crystal oscillator boasts high accuracy

EM Microelectronic, an electronic systems company of the Swatch Group, has introduced a new 32 kHz crystal oscillator, labeled EM1564. This ultra-low power circuit integrates a 32.768 kHz tuning fork crystal and an advanced CMOS circuit assembled in a specifically designed package. The EM1564 combines oscillator stability and very low power consumption with a voltage operating range from 1.2 V to 5.5 V. With a standard temperature range between –40°C to +85°C, the device is also available for an extended temperature range up to +125°C.

The EM1564 package can replace standard quartz as a solution to limitations of miniaturization. It is also a convenient solution when application difficulties arise with quartz or on-chip embedded oscillators. While EM1564's primary application is a general-purpose crystal oscillator in digital systems, it is suited for various metering and automotive applications, such as a dashboard. It can also be used as a clock driver–-timekeeping in networked servers and computers, in data logger systems, mobile phone or GPS applications. Additionally, according to the maker, the device can also be used as an input clock driver or as an add-on circuit for all types of microcontrollers that can be driven using an external clock.

The crystal oscillator features low power consumption with typically 300 nA from 1.2 V to 5.5 V supply and offers stability at 0.2 ppm/V. The EM1564 crystal oscillator is available in a 10-pin SMD ceramic package from the manufacturer and its authorized distributors.
