Dual SP3T analog switches handle negative signals
Maxim Integrated Products’ MAX4908/MAX4909 are dual single-pole triple-throw (SP3T) analog switches designed to handle negative signals with a single positive power supply. This reduces external component count and improves audio signal quality. The negative-signal capability allows signals as low as VCC - 5.5 V to pass through without distortion. They operate from a single +1.8 V to +5.5 V supply.
Other features include integrated shunt resistors to ground, thereby reducing audio popping and clicking sounds by depleting the capacitive charge, which commonly builds up on the unconnected port of the switch to ground. In addition, an extremely low 0.38 Ohm on-resistance, a low 0.35 Ohm on-resistance flatness, and a low 0.02% total harmonic distortion yield excellent audio signal quality.
The MAX4908/MAX4909 use two digital control input--CB1 and CB--to switch between signals. The digital control inputs can accept up to +5.5 V independent of the supply voltage. The switches are available in the extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and in a tiny 12-bump UCSP (1.5 mm x 2.0 mm) and a 14-pin TDFN package (3 mm x 3 mm). Prices start at $1.20, in 1000 pieces and up.
