PCB plotter delivers prototyping speed, accuracy and ease-of-use

LPKF Laser & Electronics has released its new ProtoMat S62 circuit board plotter that delivers advanced PCB prototyping capabilities at an entry-level price, reducing board production time while increasing overall accuracy and ease-of-use. Combining its maximum milling speed of 6” (150 mm) per second with its system resolution of 0.01 mils (0.25 µm) and 62,000 RPM spindle motor, the plotter produces extremely fine traces for all types of PCBs, including RF and microwave circuit boards.

Along with its performance, the ProtoMat S62 delivers conveniences like integrated head lighting and a 10-position automatic milling tool changer for unattended operation. Its motorized Z-axis drive independently moves the plotter milling head over multiple axes, providing three-dimensional plotting capability for machining front panels and housings. The ProtoMat S62 does not require external compressed air or chemicals, and it is enclosed by a soundproof acoustic cabinet, so it can safely operate in a standard office or engineering environment. Optional accessories include a fiducial recognition camera system for automatic front-to-back alignment and an integrated vacuum table top for securely mounting PCB substrates on the plotter.

For the in-house production of multilayer boards, the plotter operates in conjunction with LPKF multilayer lamination and through-hole plating equipment, including the new LPKF ProConduct chemical-free through-hole plating system. The ProConduct system delivers completely safe, reliable and thermally stable plating results for any hole size using a quick parallel processing technique. The ProtoMat S62 system is available for $18,900.
