MEMS Enables 8 x 8 Switch Matrix
Renaissance Electronics has developed an 8 x 8 switch matrix based on microelectromechanical-systems (MEMS) technology. The model 18A7NF-1 8 x 8 MEMS switch matrix, which incorporates 80 single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) MEMS switches within a rugged housing measuring 7.85 x 7.43 x 2.8 in. with SMA female connectors, is rated for more than 100 billion switching cycles. It offers frequency coverage of DC to 2.5 GHz with 6-dB insertion loss and 40-dB isolation. The switch matrix handles to +10 dBm signals on hot switching and to +33 dBm signals on cold switching, and switches in less than 50 microseconds. The actuation bias is 10 mA at +5 VDC. It is ideal for applications in test systems, telecommunications systems, and military and aerospace systems.
