OCXOs come at TCXO prices
MMD Components (Monitor & Quartztek), a producer of frequency control devices, has introduced the MOFL series, a line of low-cost oven-controlled crystal oscillators (OCXOs) featuring an AT cut crystal design that allows users to enjoy the benefits of OCXO performance for the price of a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO). Designed for a wide variety of instrumentation and industrial applications, the new OCXOs boast stabilities of ±0.1 ppm over an operating temperature range of –20ºC to +70ºC and are evaluated for ultimate frequency stability over the entire operating range. Units are offered in an industry-standard 14-pin DIP configuration or in a gull-wing surface-mount version.
The OCXOs provide fast warm-up and low power usage, with typical current consumption of 200 mA during start-up and under 75 mA in steady-state operation at 25ºC for a 12 Vdc unit. Customers can also specify operating voltages of 3.3 V and 5 V as well as frequency ranges from 1 MHz to 100 MHz.
Availability for the MOFL series OCXOs is stock to six weeks for units with standard frequencies and 12 weeks for custom frequencies. Prices start as low as $55 each for units with frequencies under 40 MHz and in quantities of 100.
