Low-jitter LVPECL VCXOs handle frequencies up to 700 MHz
MMD Components (Monitor & Quartztek), a producer of frequency control devices, has announced a new line of compact, low-jitter low-voltage positive emitter coupled logic (LVPECL) voltage-controlled crystal oscillators (VCXOs) with frequency ranges up to 700 MHz. Using inverted mesa and AT strip crystals, these VCXOs come in a package that measures only 5 mm x 7 mm x 1.5 mm (0.2 in. x 0.28 in. x 0.06 in.).
Part of MMD's expanding MVIP series, the new VCXOs are especially suitable in applications with extreme environmental conditions. The units can operate in temperatures ranging from –55ºC to +125ºC, and the inverted mesa technology enables them to meet the same shock and vibration levels as oscillators operating in the 20 MHz range. The inverted mesa crystals also allow extended pull ranges – up to ±200 ppm at 700 MHz – while the chemically etched AT strip crystals, operating in the fundamental mode, provide an excellent VC-frequency pull range and a low factory jitter in the 0.5 picoseconds root-mean-square (rms) range.
The high-frequency VCXOs are available with tristate and LVPECL differential outputs and in operating voltages of 3 V and 3.3 V. Availability for the MVIP series low-jitter LVPECL surface-mount oscillators is stock to eight weeks, with prices starting at $17.50 each in 100-unit quantities.
