Peak power meters conduct high-quality measurements

Anritsu Company’s ML2490A series peak power meters feature industry-best bandwidth and rise time to conduct accurate pulse measurements on rapid rise time radar signals and complex new modulation techniques used in 4G applications and wireless systems such as WiMAX. In addition to accurate rising edge pulse measurements, both power meters in the series can conduct high-quality CW measurements, offering microwave/RF and commercial wireless engineers flexibility and universal performance.

The ML2490A series power meters feature 65 MHz bandwidth. When used with the company’s new MA2411B pulse sensor, the power meters achieve a typical rise time of 8 ns. Resolution can be set as low as 1 ns on display times up to 200 ns. This combination of wide bandwidth, fast rise time, and high resolution allows the peak, average, and crest factor of the most demanding radar signals and OFDM/W-CDMA signals to be measured. Single and multi-pulse radar signals can be precisely measured using multiple gates, markers and a complete set of dedicated pulse functions. Conventional power meters cannot accurately track the power envelopes of these modern signals, leading to errors in design, manufacturing, and maintenance.

The dual-input ML2496A addresses the measurement challenges associated with designing and manufacturing modern amplifiers, where OFDM modulation requires power amplifiers to track the symbol power envelope precisely to keep the error rate low. Designers can use the ML2496A to optimize gain and output power of transmitters under pulsed or high crest factor conditions. A standard CCDF function allows an amplifier’s quality to be measured graphically. Plus, the power meter can also conduct pulse measurements such as power output, shape, and power dissipation. The ML2495A features the same specifications with a single sensor input. A TTL-compatible external trigger with 10 MHz capability supports high pulse repetition frequency applications. Additionally, the ML2490A Series has an internal trigger that is automatically set and can be routed to the rear panel for manual control. Users can select the trigger waveform display for custom analysis. An external video connection allows measurement results to be transferred to external monitors, making it easy for device under test (DUT) performance to be analyzed in manufacturing applications.

The MA2411B wideband power sensor has frequency coverage of 0.3 to 40 GHz, with 8 ns rise time. Anritsu also provides the MA2490A 8 GHz sensor and MA2491A 18 GHz sensor for use with the ML2490A series power meters.

The single-input ML2495A has a price of $9300, while the dual-input ML2496A is priced at $10,880. Delivery is six to eight weeks ARO.
