Sequans Taps Azimuth Emulator For 4G Testing

Sequans Communicator has chosen the ACE MX multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel emulator from Azimuth Systems to test its Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and WiMAX chipsets. The emulator is designed to provide advanced channel modulation for efficient, automated, and repeatable testing of carrier-grade LTE and WiMAX solutions that use orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and advanced antenna techniques such as MIMO.

In 2009, Sequans expanded to address the LTE market and launched an LTE development program backed by Motorola and Alcatel-Lucent. It will use the ACE MX to test the first of its SQN3000 series LTE chips, the SQN3010 (see the figure). Along with SQN3010-powered USB dongles, Sequans recently delivered the SQN3010 to China Mobile for its launch of the world’s first TD-LTE demonstration network in Shanghai.

The ACE MX uses advanced digital signaling processing technology to allow real-time testing of MIMO and single-input single-output (SISO) wireless devices in a multipath fading environment. It provides dynamic channel emulation that scales for testing single-channel devices up to MIMO 4x4 devices, or even up to 8x4 MIMO.

Additionally, the emulator’s dedicated bi-directional channel modeling can accurately emulate real-world wireless over-the-air conditions in both the downlink and uplink paths simultaneously, according to the companies. It supports time division duplex (TDD) and frequency division duplex (FDD) modes. And, the companies say that it offers an extremely easy to use graphical user interface.
