The 2201 ProLock GSM and WCDMA communications test set from Willtek Communications now supports EDGE measurements, enabling retailers and repair shops to check and repair EDGE-enabled phones. The company will demonstrate the 2201 ProLock’s EDGE features in booth 6556 at the CTIA Show in Las Vegas, scheduled for April 1-3.

Using the EDGE option, the ProLock 2201 will be able to set up a test call with the mobile phone or wireless data card under test and perform eight-phase shift keying (8PSK) transmitter measurements. Willtek added the EDGE capability because some mobile-phone manufacturers call for EDGE testing in service for those phones that are GSM- and EDGE-enabled but do not support WCDMA.

Instruments in the field can be upgraded via a simple firmware update to EDGE. Units ordered with EDGE now can be delivered immediately. The 2201 ProLock with EDGE support will be commercially available in June.
